Family Veterinary Clinic’s Philosophy
Medicine, including veterinary medicine, is practiced. This means that although there are known facts and accepted ways of doing certain things, medicine is an ever-evolving science. Every veterinarian and clinic have their own philosophy and strategy on how to best approach patient care. We at FVC believe it is important for you to know the approach we take to provide optimal veterinary care to your pet.
We practice high-quality medicine and surgery, utilizing diagnostics to get a diagnosis. This means we take a systematic approach to determining exactly what is wrong with an animal before undertaking any action.
FVC stresses absolute safety in surgery. Lab work is either sent out or done in our in-house lab pre-anesthetically to rule out any pre-existing conditions that cannot be detected clinically. Our surgery suite is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, ECG, respiratory and temperature monitors, to keep track of how animals are responding during surgical operations. We also use isoflurane gas for anesthesia, as it has a long safety record. Since each pet is different we apply an anesthetic protocol tailored to the individual pet, based on the animal’s specific needs.
We believe it is important to be proactive in medicine. Therefore, we place emphasis on wellness and preventative medicine. This is very important since it is usually more effective to treat diseases when they are caught early. It is also the reason we employ tests such as blood work, blood pressure, urinalysis, 4DX (Heartworm, Lyme, Erlichia, Anaplasma) and ECGs.
Individualized attention for patients and clients is important, so we endeavor to provide ample support staff to offer quality care. Pain can be managed. FVC engages in proactive treatment of pain secondary to surgery or dentistry, as well as chronic pain associated with arthritis or cancer. The comfort of your pet is a significant part of treatment and recovery.
We treat your pets as if they were our own. The recommendations for care we make are based on what we consider to be the very best medicine. Both you, the pet owner and FVC are partners in managing the health and well-being of your pet. Therefore, we encourage you to ask us any questions you may have regarding this topic.
